Before you can get married in Denmark, you must have a marriage certificate. The marriage certificate is documentation that you meet the marriage conditions.
You must either apply for a marriage certificate at The Agency of Family Law or at the municipality. Where you apply depends on both of your nationalities or your basis of residence in Denmark.
Apply at The Agency of Familie Law if
- you are citizens of EU countries or Switzerland
- one of you is a citizen of a country outside of Europe or of the European Economic Area (EEA)
Apply at the municipality where you reside if
- you are both Danish or Nordic citizens
- you have permanent residence in Denmark
- you have a right of residence pursuant to the Executive Order on EU residence.
